Blasita Lopez to oversee City's communications office;
Jesse Bogan assumes E-N's border post

The big news this month is the appointment of City of Laredo Public Information Officer Blasita Lopez to the position of communications manager for the Office of Public Information Office and the Office of Telecommunications/Public Access Center. The announcement was made recently by City Manager Larry Dovalina, who lauded Lopez's contributions to the City's PIO office.
Lopez said she looked forward to the challenge of overseeing both entities and to continuing her work in the public information office, which is the division charged with disseminating news to the local media, as well as receiving, monitoring, and processing all open records requests as prescribed by the Texas Public Information Act.
The division of Telecommunications handles all City of Laredo business with complying with regulations set by the Federal Communications Commission when dealing with local cable and satellite companies, for rental and lease agreements. It also houses the Public Access Center facilities, the City-owned public-access channels, which regularly show City Council, Webb County, school board, and other municipal board meetings, among other local features.
Lopez, a journalism graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, began her career as a reporter with local television outlets, where she honed her media skills in reporting, investigating, interviewing, producing, and editing, among other journalistic skills. Lopez joined the City of Laredo as the PIO in 2000.

At Pro 8 News
Among the new faces on KGNS's Pro 8 News is Steve Lyerly, the station's morning and noon anchor. He is a native of Rockwell, North Carolina. Best wishes to Mariela Alasi who co-anchors with Tim Gutierrez on the 5 p.m. Pro 8 broadcast. She brings a good measure of professionalism and interest to the broadcast and appears not to be just another on-air reader of news. Best wishes likewise to Spanish translator Leonar Narvaez, who now makes the station's news broadcasts accessible to thousands of Spanish speaking Laredoans.

New Issue of La Fe
La Fe's Goyo Lopez has another beautiful issue out and circulating. Lopez has consistently managed to give the four-color publication a very recognizable local slant. Among the local news stories are the profile of Sr. Mary De Lellis Treviño and Casa de Misericordia Women's Shelter.

Why You Can't Taste Food
With Your Pallet
Sorry, Erin Taylor (LMT, 10/19/03, Re: Tack Room). That with which you taste food is your palate. That slatted wood object on which you store goods in transit is a pallet.
