First
United Methodist Church sets
annual fundraising Rummage Sale
By
Dennis P. Kriewald
The
annual Rummage Sale, sponsored by the First United Methodist
Church, a bargain hunter's dream come true, will take
place Thursday, October 24, Friday, October 25, and
Saturday, October 26, according to Hortense Offerle,
Rummage Sale chairperson.
The Sale will be held in the Church's Fellowship Hall,
at the corner of 1000 Guadalupe and 1200 McClelland,
Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday,
from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Hortense Offerle, in inviting the public to attend,
says, "We do not charge any admission fee; customers
pay for their purchases as they leave the Fellowship
Hall."
The many items for sale will include used exercise equipment,
children's toys, a metal filing cabinet, a boxed artificial
Christmas tree, a spare tire with rim, a mattress and
box spring, various items of luggage, several wall clocks,
a a wine rack, a batter's helmet, a microwave oven,
a baby's folding plastic playpen, an infant's carrier,
various small appliances, a barbecue pit, cowboy boots,
shoes and clothing for ladies, men, and boys and girls
-- sweaters, jackets, dresses, shirts, slacks, etc.
FUMC members have been holding this annual event for
the past 16 years, and its success depends on the hard-working
volunteers and donations by the public as well as by
Church members. Mrs. Offerle says that her usual assistants
include Doris Sparenberg, Jim Sitchler, Zelma Heck,
Laura May and Pastor Paul May, Amelia Kuly, Perry and
Geneva Widener, Peggy Frost, Laura Oden, and Ed and
Gloria Guajardo, all of whom are generous in working
throughout the three-day event.
Finally, in encouraging the public to come to the Rummage
Sale, Mrs. Offerle says that all proceeds go to support
two orphanages in Nuevo Laredo, another children's home
in Pattaya, Thailand, and to the FUMChurch's general
treasury.

Sale, call the FUMChurch office at 722-1674.
