La Posada Hotel Suites: an ambiance of history and hospitality
If the vernacular architecture of the San Agustin Historical District is valued for the Spanish colonial historical treasure that it is, then the old stones and mortar of La Posada Hotel Suites are among its crown jewels.
The main part of La Posada rests on the foundation of the original site of the casa judicial which housed the earliest form of governance in Laredo , a city whose beginnings date to 1755. That building is surrounded by other historically significant structures, including the original capitol building of the Republic of the Río Grande , the old Ursuline Sisters Convent, and the Victorian elegance of the A.M. Bruni Residence and the Laredo Telephone Exchange.
Just as the hotel property over centuries evolved from the casa judicial into Laredo High School and to its present refined state of legendary hospitality, so did those other sites evolve, respectively, into what is now the hotel's San Agustín Ballroom, the museum of the Republic of the Río Grande, and the Tack Room Bar and Grill. The hotel complex is also the home of the Washington's Birthday Celebration Museum, which opened in 1999. The hotel was established in 1961, expanded in 1966 and again in 1983, and was purchased in 1994 by the Fasken Family, which undertook a major renovation of all the structures in the hotel complex.
Located just a block from International Bridge I and II, the 208-room hotel includes 57 suites and offers three distinctive on-site restaurants, including the Tack Room, El Café, and the Tesoro Club. El Café's Mexican Buffet is unrivaled in Laredo as are the Tack Room's steaks and seafood.
The hotel's ambiance of history and hospitality, coupled with its proximity to Mexico and to other nearby historical sites of Laredo , makes a stay at La Posada a unique experience for visitors who find themselves in Laredo for pleasure or on business. The Hotel is in walking distance from the stores of downtown Laredo and from the Laredo Center for the Arts and the Webb County Heritage Foundation.
La Posada is set to undergo a multi-million dollar renovation project that includes upgrades and refurbishments to guest rooms, restaurants, lobby, corridors, public meeting rooms, lighting, and heating and air conditioning throughout the hotel.
