Talking with the Bucks'
Grenville and Nilson
By Erin S. Burleson
Bucks season is in full swing and
Laredo has welcomed it with open arms. Although attendance
has not been as high as last year, the Bucks show
no sign of reducing their efforts on ice.
Before the Bucks began the season, Chris Grenville
spoke about his goals for the 2003-2004 season. "I
basically want to stay consistent and work hard every
night," he said. With an almost flawless record,
it appears he and the rest of the team have not lacked
in that department.
Even with five returning favorites on the player line
up this season, there seems to be only one name on
every fan's mind, Patrik Nilson. Sure there is assistant
coach/player Mark Matier, and the two brick wall goalies,
Marco Emond and David Guerrera, but there is just
something about the 22-year-old Swedish player that
is turning everyone's head. Perhaps it's that he is
the leading scorer not only on the Bucks but also
in the CHL. What about also being elected the player
of the month and receiving the Sherwood award for
his performance on the ice? Whatever it is, Nilson
is turning into what some might call a local hero.
When asked what it felt like being voted the first
player of the month for this season, having never
played in the CHL prior to the Bucks, Nilson said,
"It's kind of funny, [however], it's an honor
and I am lucky to have these incredible teammates
who will stick up for each other. I play on an awesome
team."
On behalf of all Bucks fans, Congratulations Patrik
and the rest of the Bucks, you guys are awesome and
have done an outstanding job on and off the ice! You
are helping make each of us a little prouder to be
called Laredoans.
