Jorge
Granados Rose Garden dedicated
at St. Augustine Elementary School
Administrators, faculty,
parents, students, and friends of St. Augustine Schools
gathered recently for a formal dedication and blessing
of a rose garden in memory of St. Augustine Elementary
School teacher Jorge J. Granados, who passed away
April 7, 2002, at the age of 67.
Father Dominique Peridans officiated over the blessing
of the tiled mural, which depicts one of Granados’
favorite poems. The tile work and rose garden were
donated by parents and faculty members at St. Augustine
Elementary.
A former member of the Marine Corps, Granados had
been an educator and religious guide of St. Augustine
Elementary for over 28 years and served as assistant
principal.
"He was a nurturing educator and a most spiritual
man, the children and parents loved him and respected
him highly," said Olga Gentry, St. Augustine
Elementary principal. "He will be missed by all
who knew him and worked with him."
Granados served the schools in various other capacities
as well, assisting with softball leagues, planning
liturgies, composing the school’s yearbook,
and driving a school bus to athletic events when needed.
Parents and faculty could always depend on him to
complete a task and help others with theirs. His spiritual
demeanor was one that always comforted students and
made teaching a rewarding experience for those who
worked with him, according to St. Augustine Elementary
staff.
Granados was also a loving and devoted husband, father,
grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived
by his wife of 44 years, Magdalena Granados; his daughters
Rosie Botello, Lourdes Granados, Teresa Monroy, and
Magda Granados; grandchildren Carlos and Jorge Botello,
Eric and John Monroy, Jessica Granados, and Ulysses
Granados; great-grandson Justin Martinez; a brother,
Ubaldo Granados, and a sister, Hilda Granados; and
nephews, nieces, and other relatives who were present
at the morning dedication.
