seafood and excellent service
bring customers back to Mariscos El Pescador
By Sandra Iruegas
What began in 1989 as
a modest seafood restaurant enterprise in a space seating
20 diners and served by seven employees has now been
parlayed by Mariscos El Pescador founder Jesus Benavidez
into a popular, bustling restaurant that seats 200.
General manager Grace Rodriguez attributes the business’
success over 13 years to providing good service and
great food. "We make every effort to treat every
customer well," she said. "El Pescador’s
growth is directly related to their satisfaction with
our service and our menu."
El Pescador has maintained the same menu of fish and
shrimp lunch specials since the beginning, and at the
same prices, starting at $2.99. They are available Monday
through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Though it is recognized for its fresh seafood specialties,
El Pescador also serves steaks, chicken, and pasta.
I made a surprise visit to El Pescador accompanied by
a dear friend. We were seated promptly in spite of the
noontime full house. We ordered the seafood platter
that serves one to two people and it was more than enough
for the two of us. Our server was Coral Camarillo, who
was prompt in receiving us and taking our drink orders.
She gave us enough time to look over our menus and was
knowledgeable about the different plates we had questions
about.
Camarillo has been employed at El Pescador for over
three years. "I enjoy working here because I like
our customers," she said. "A lot of them are
regulars. We try to give everyone the best service,
and we keep the restaurant clean."
El Pescador recently began offering to go orders for
quick pick-up at a drive-through area. Parking is never
a problem with two large parking lots, one behind the
restaurant and one less than half a block away from
its doors.
Mariscos El Pescador is located at 3919 San Dario. For
