Anita Dodier, Richard Haynes will portray SMW colonial couple
Anita (Annie) Zuñiga Dodier and Richard E. Haynes will portray Martha and George Washington in the 2004-2005 Washington's Birthday Celebration Association. The announcement was made recently at a reception hosted at the home of Imelda and Richard Haynes.
Dodier, a past president of the Society of Martha Washington and a member since 1982, was herself presented by the Society in 1969. A lifetime educator, she recently retired from the Laredo Independent School District . A graduate of J.W. Nixon High School , she holds a BA in elementary education from Southern Methodist University, a Master's in Bilingual Education with a Kindergarten certificate, and mid-management certification from Texas A&M International University . The mother of three sons -- David Michael, Robert Daniel, and Thomas Edward -- Dodier is married to David Dodier. She is a partner of ZP Cattle Co., ZUCO Minerals, and Columbus Enterprises.
Her escort to the 1969 Society of Martha Washington festivities was David Dodier, whom she married. Their three sons have participated in the Colonial Ball and Pageant as pages and escorts. Dodier's family has a long association with the Society of Martha Washington. Her father, Fernando Zuñiga, Jr., was president of the WBCA in 1970 and portrayed George Washington in 1971. Her mother, Josephine Palacios Zuñiga, portrayed Martha Washington in 1975. Her brother, Fernando Zuñiga III, was president of the WBCA in 1991 and portrayed George Washington in 1992 and her brother, Federico Zuñiga, also portrayed George Washington in 2004. Her sister, Lisa Zuñiga Martinez, was presented by the Society in 1981.
Dodier is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Texas Supervisors of Mathematics, and is a certified TEXTEAM trainer for the state of Texas . She is also a member of the Texas Cattlewomen's Association and is a sustaining member of the Princess Pocahontas Council.
Richard E. Haynes, Sr., a Laredo attorney, is a graduate of St. Joseph 's Academy and St. Mary's University, where he earned a B.B.A. in Marketing. He is a graduate of St. Mary's University School of Law, holding a Doctor of Jurisprudence from that school. He practices law in Laredo .
He is a member of the Laredo Webb County Bar Association and State Bar of Texas. Haynes has been a member of the Rotary Daybreak Club, Laredo Jaycees, Elk's Lodge, Knights of Columbus, and St. Patrick Men's Club. He is presently president of the board of the Brothers of Saint John Society and an active participant in the Annual Red Mass sponsored by the local Bar Association.
Haynes has served as board member of International Bank of Commerce since 1976, and on the board of International Banc Shares Corporation. He has also been involved with the St. Mary's University Hispanic Scholarship Committee for South Texas and is a major supporter of Habitat for Humanity of Laredo, Inc., acting as advisor and counselor on several projects, including a Habitat Park at Riverhill Subdivision. Haynes has also been involved with the SCAN organization and the Dr. Henry Cuellar's Youth Center on Pita Mangana Rd.
During the past 25 years, in addition to his law practice, Haynes has been active in real estate, development, rentals, and construction.
He is married to Rosa Imelda Cabrera Haynes, a current member of the Society of Martha Washington. They have three children, Richard E. Haynes II, who is married to Alison White Haynes; Christopher M. Haynes; and Kimberly Marie Haynes. The Haynes family has been associated with the Society of Martha Washington for many years. His daughter Kimberly was presented in 1993, and his son Christopher was an escort in 1991. His sister Nora Lee Haynes Notzon was a Society of Martha Washington debutante and also portrayed Martha Washington in 1993. His brother-in-law Marcel C. Notzon portrayed George Washington in 1990.
