| Hail
to the conquerors,
hell for the senior citizens
By Henri D. Kahn
Senior citizens that
read LareDOS, I venture to say, don't have to eat generic
label canned beans or Fido brand yum-yum gravy-soaked
dog food so they can have enough money left from their
paltry social security income to purchase half or less
of their life-saving prescription medicines.
These LareDOS readers aren't included in the unfortunate,
incredibly numerous group of retired senior citizens
that worked hard, obeyed the law, cared for their family,
and paid taxes throughout their earning years, only
to settle for the crumbs left by inconsiderate politicians
like the clowns now in power.
Exaggeration? Unbelievable? Just can't be? Aw, go on
now! Are you sure. Here we are in the land of milk of
honey, paradise on earth, so wonderful that immigrants
from the world over are willing to withstand all sorts
of dangers to cross the borders for a chance to make
it.
Yep, our great country is a place where you can achieve
what you want, most of the time, during your working
years. But what about your golden years? Here, it's
work till you drop or live from hand to mouth for too
many fine people who just never made a lot of money.
My sister Zulie, as an employee of the Air Force, traveled
Europe extensively and always commented to us how seniors
in Europe seemed so much better off than many, at least
one-third, of senior citizens in our country. Damn,
I always figured we were better than those dern foreigners.
The current administration has seen fit to spend billions
of taxpayer dollars to conquer a country that supposedly
posed a severe threat to our national security. Well,
we have now conquered Iraq's military and now face the
monumental problem of reviving a country rife with religious
sect hate, tribal fighting, political unrest, and finally
a "Yankee Go Home" attitude.
One of the ironies of this conquest is that the only
weapon of mass destruction yet discovered in Iraq is
Donald Rumsfeld in Baghdad.
How sad and shameful that so many aspiring political
quasi-con artist government office-seekers scam the
senior citizenry with "I will work hard and promise
to do my very best to help all senior citizens who are
lacking food, shelter, and their prescription medications."
Now we have Mr. Bush and his ludicrous plan to mete
out a few hundred dollars for every taxpayer to the
tune of somewhere between $300 and $500 billion. Many
of his own cronies are scratching their heads over this
presidential proposal.
Recently, the highest unemployment figures in the last
eight years were posted for all except, apparently,
Bush and his economic experts, to see.
What more, in heaven's name, is necessary to recognize
that George W. Bush is a fake, a bad joke, and an omen
of ill fortune?
I highly recommend that if you want to be fair to the
senior citizens in the USA, do not, I repeat, do not
vote for George W. Bush when he tries to extend his
era of regression.
Also, remember, before the Republicans took over Texas,
we did not have the education funding problems we are
now having.

Next month I will present my idea about "healthcare
for all."
