LCC
breaks ground on South Campus June 14
Flag
Day, a time for communities to demonstrate their reverence
for Old Glory and the great nation it represents, will
hold a special meaning in Laredo this year.
This
June 14, citizens from Laredo and neighboring communities
are invited to demonstrate their solidarity by participating
in what Laredo Community College officials anticipate
will be South Texas largest ground breaking ceremony.
A
ground breaking for Laredo Community College South will
be held on June 14 at 10 a.m. on South Zapata Highway
83, across the road from United ISDs newest high
school (L.B. Johnson).
Citizens
are encouraged to bring their own shovels to help break
ground on the future site of LCCs second comprehensive
college.
In
November of 2000, Laredo voters approved the issuance
of $50 million in bonds to finance the land acquisition
and construction of LCC South.
The
second campus will be nestled on a 60-acre tract of
land located near the Santa Rita housing development
in the communitys high growth area of South Laredo.
Among
the anchor programs planned for LCC South are Advanced
Technology, Automotive Technology / Diesel Technology
/ Auto Body Repair, Child Development, and Criminal
Justice / Police Academy.
General
academic instruction will also be offered to support
a variety of degree plans, including the Associate in
Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied
Science. Additionally, adult basic education and continuing
education courses will be available at LCC South.
The
new $50 million campus in South Laredo will also feature
a library and student development services -- including
financial aid, health services, career counseling, special
populations and tutoring.

opportunities
for
