Art of Nora Chapa Mendoza featured at Center for the Arts in April
The work of artist Nora Chapa Mendoza will be featured at the Laredo Center for the Arts throughout April in Exhibit Hall West. An opening reception for the exhibit is set for Thursday, April 7, from 6-8 p.m.
Mendoza has been recognized with numerous awards over the past 20-plus years. In November 1999, she was named Michigan Artist of the Year and was the recipient of the Governor's Arts Award for her artistic contributions to Michigan's cultural milieu, for her service to the Southwest Detroit arts community, and for her commitment to the people in that community. She has also served ten years as a member of the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs.
Soft-spoken yet passionate about the conditions confronting the poor of North Central, and South America, Mendoza is involved in Indian, Hispanic, migrant workers' and women's affairs. As an artist, she devotes much of her time to enriching the local and international communities by sharing her work, her experience, and passing on her skills to a future generation of artists.
