Andres Ramos recipient of LULAC's Lo Mejor de Nuestro Award

 

Community activist and former Webb County judge Andres Ramos was recently named recipient of LULAC #12's Lo Mejor de Nuestro Award, conferred at the Noche Mexicana festivities during the Washington's Birthday Celebration.

A native Laredoan who served as Webb County judge from 1988 to 1992, Ramos is a former school teacher. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was employed for 19 years as program administrator of operations for the Employment and Training Division of the South Texas Private Industry Council. He was elected to the Laredo City Council in 1978 and served three terms.

Ramos served as LULAC #12 president from 1976 to 1978. Under his leadership, LULAC #12 won the prestigious National Council of the Year award at the LULAC National Convention. During that time, Señor Internacional had its beginnings in a collaboration between Ramos and fellow LULAC member Pitin Guajardo.

Ramos was presented the LULAC Freshman of the Year award in 1968 and Man of the Year award in 1976.

He serves as president of the Laredo Latin American International Sports Hall of Fame and in 1999 was recognized as Sportsman of the Year.

He is a founder, past president, and board member of BEST (Bring Everyone Special Together), and an active member of San Luis Rey Catholic Church.

Ramos is married to the former Adriana Sanchez. They have three sons, Alejandro, Alonzo, and Aaron.
