STNB breaks ground for full service bank in North Laredo
South Texas National Bank has broken ground for a new full service facility at McPherson Road and Sterling Street south of Doctors Hospital . The March 10 groundbreaking spearheaded by C. Edward Whitworth, president and CEO of South Texas National Bank, included bank directors and officers.
The STNB branch that is currently on the property will continue to serve bank customers until the new facility is completed.
"Only a few short years ago, the property surrounding the San Isidro branch was undeveloped brush country," said Whitworth. " Loop 20 and the extension of McPherson were in the planning stages. We are proud to have been part of the explosive growth in North Laredo and to have provided financing for some of the most vital projects in that area, both commercial and residential."
That explosive growth includes new residential subdivisions, a hospital, schools, churches, office buildings, and commercial establishments.
The design of the new full service STNB branch will offer its customers convenience, accessibility, and a pleasant, relaxed ambience, according to Whitworth. "It will be a less formal bank setting for Laredoans who work and live in North or who do business there," he said. The 8,000 square foot facility features six personal and two commercial motor bank lanes, night depository, and all lobby services. A drive-up ATM will be located at the front of the bank.
Stoneworks Construction of Laredo is the contractor for the new structure. It is estimated that the facility will open its doors in the Fall of 2004. David Puig will manage the new facility, which will have a staff of 11.
Members of STNB's board of directors include, in addition to Whitworth, Joaquin G. Cigarroa III, Melissa Cigarroa, Ike Epstein, Gerardo García, O. Enrique Hinojosa Peña, George J. Person, Humberto Piña, Rene Solis, Carroll E. Summers, James D. Walker, John Weston, F. H. Whitehead, Jr., Federico C. Zuniga, and Fernando Zuniga.
