LCC Honors Program welcomes new students

Laredo Community College honored 14 of the region's brightest high school graduates with a scholarship signing ceremony and an official reception into the LCC Honors Program.

The students, graduates of six Laredo high schools and Zapata, will be privileged with full scholarships and challenging academic opportunities that will help them achieve the next level of their education.

The LCC Honors Program, established in 1988, engages its students in a rigorous course of study, providing new challenges to gifted students. The program allows top students a chance to enhance their leadership potential, excel in academics, and further their community involvement.

Long-time math educator Anna María Mendiola has coordinated the Honors Program, which is affiliated with the National Collegiate Honors Council, the governing body for all college and university honors programs, including those in Ivy League schools.

Mendiola has helped many graduates achieve recruitment by major universities through the LCC Honors Program.
