UISD hosts The King and I from L.I.T.E. Productions

Local elementary and junior high school students will present Rogers & Hammerstein's story of Anna and the king of Siam as UISD hosts L.I.T.E. Productions' performance of Getting to Know . . . The King and I.

Getting to Know . . . The King and I is a special adapation of the musical for pre-high school students. The cast includes 75 children ages 5 to 14.

Performances begin Friday, July 16, at 8 p.m., at the United ISD Student Activity Complex Auditorium, 5208 St . Claudia Lane , on Hwy. 359 just outside Bob Bullock Loop.

Additional performances are set for Saturday July 17, at 8 p.m., Sunday, July 18, at 3 p.m., Friday and Saturday, July 23 and 24, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, July 25, at 3 p.m.

The musical is directed by Peggy Phelps and Jessica Kent. Music director is Josie Molina. Student director is Mara Lopez, with assistant student director Eric Lara. Teresa Walters is in charge of costumes and cast management, assisted by Tacee Walters. Props are by Alicia Coronado.

Roles in the performances are multi-cast. Cast members include Alex Lopez and Armando Lopez as the King; Maricruz Menchero, Kendra Perez, Cassandra Vara as Mrs. Anna; Marla Perez, María Gracia Rosas, and Vanessa Villarreal as Lady Thiang; David Gonzalez and Mitchell McCrea as Chulalongkorn; Marcos Gonzalez, Andres Regalado, and Adrian Rosas as Louis; Diana Cantu, Tanyn Walters, and Taryn Walters as Ying; Eduardo (Wayo) Benavidez, Julian Diaz-Lolar, and Andrew McBride as Kralahome; Camila Alarcon and Mayela Pizaña as Tuptim; Chae Kim and Albert Sandoval as Luntha; Kelly Dunn, Andrea García, and Amy Reilly as Princess Ying; Patrick Carroll and Ben Lopez as Sir Edward/Capt. Orton; and Ricky Castillon and Jerry Sosa as the Interpreter.

Mothers are played by Valerie Aguilar, Carmella Diaz-Lolar, Kassandra Gallegos, Kendra Guillen, Cecilia Long, Joelle Marlowe, Evelyn Richardson, Carissa Rodriguez. Jessica Sauceda, and Rebecca Villarreal.

Children are played by Jenna Almendarez, Oscar Almendarez, Alma Barrera, Catarina Benavidez, Clarissa Cabello, Vidal Cantu, Kathryn Carroll, Alexia de la Garza , Itatti de la Garza , Carolina García, Joanna Marie García, Daniella Garza, Carissa Guerra, Victoria Herrick, Caden Kent, Gregorio Lopez, Benjamim Rosas, Kassandra Rubio , Victoria Sandoval, Rosinita Silva , Victoria Soto, and Katherine Villarreal.

Guards are played by Jesus Rodriguez-Leal and Adolfo Vasquez. (Note:
