Lake Casa Blanca

Greater Kiskadee

One of the most compelling reasons for safeguarding the recreational treasure of Lake Casa Blanca is that the lake and its watershed are home to hundreds of forms of waterfowl, aquatic species, and other wildlife. A recent canoe trip out on the lake allowed us a beautiful at-home view of the Golden Fronted Woodpecker, the Great White Egret, a pair of Greater Kiskadee, Whistling Tree Ducks, Black Crowned Night Herons, Great Blue Herons, and American White Pelicans. Dan Muñoa photographed the Pelicans and George J. Altgelt photographed the Woodpecker, Egret, Kiskadee, Whistling Tree Ducks, Black Crowned Night Herons, and Great Blue Heron.
The preservation of the lake is important across many fronts, not the least of which is to offer a public recreational water resource to Laredoans, but also for the economic viability as an attraction to visiting bird watchers and eco-tourists.
