Center
for the Arts to feature all-female exhibit
for Women's History Month
The Laredo Center
for the Arts will host an all-female art exhibit showcase
in honor of Women's History Month. The exhibit, "Water
Reflections," features work by the Art Spirits,
a local group led by watercolor instructor Mary L.
Quiros, and will be on display in the Laredo Art League
Gallery March 2-31.
An opening reception is set for Tuesday, March 4,
6-8 p.m., at the Laredo Center for the Arts.
The Art Spirits were recently awarded the Texas Watercolor
Society signature membership. Exhibiting members include
Christina Castillon, Tere García, Linda LaMantia,
Marlyn Madrazo, Center for the Arts executive director
Serena M. Rosenkrantz, Monica Solis Ruiz, Raquel Valle-Senties,
Nena Solis, Anne Brennan Vela, and Gloria Zuñiga.
Additional shows will be on display in March as well.
Judi Krew's "Fun in the XX Chroma-Zone"
will be on display in Exhibit Hall West March 4 through
April 26. She has been an exhibiting artist since
1982 after receiving a BFA degree in painting and
drawing from the University of Akron's Honors Program.
She works with children as a guest artist in the local
school system and serves on the board of trustees
for the Canton Museum of Art in Ohio. Krew’s
opening reception will be held Tuesday, March 4, 6-8
p.m.
Anne Brennan Vela’s "Visual Poetry"
will be exhibited in the Goodman Gallery March 4 through
April 26. Vela founded the Laredo Center for the Arts
in 1993. She received the Paul Hams award from the
Rotarians for her contribution to the arts in Laredo.
Vela's work has been accepted in many national and
regional exhibitions across the U.S. Her work was
published in the Texas Watercolor Society: 50 Years
of Excellence, and some of her recent awards include
the San Antonio Watercolor Group Juried Exhibition
Silver Medal and the Artoberfest, New Braunfels, abstract
watercolor first place and mixed media/batik second
place. An opening reception will be held Tuesday,
March 4, 6-8 p.m.
