Give a listen to the Magnet Connection, 90.5 FM;
City PIOs Lopez & Mora give pronunciation guide for media

LISD Magnet School instructor Patsy O'Shea and her radio broadcast students are on the air at 90.5 FM. Give a listen to music, talk radio, school news, and a diversity of offerings. Best of luck to the Magnet Connection.
I had to chuckle, and I had to be happy to read the recent City of Laredo news advisory about downtown construction that went to the trouble to include the pronunciation for Iturbide Street. Smart move, Blasita Lopez and Linda Xochitl Mora of the City PIO office, for giving the weekend child anchors a tool they can really use.
At Pro-8 News, station manager Mary Nell Sanchez has noted that reporter Michele Lockhart has assumed the police beat now that Lisa Rantala has left for the Time Warner Cable station in San Antonio. Jay Gilmore has been promoted to weekday sports anchor, while newcomer Dan Joseph takes over the weekend sports segment. Sanchez reported that Christina Medina will solo anchor weekend news for the time being.
Former LareDOS staff writer and photographer Sandra Iruegas now works on the other side of the news as communications assistant for the Food Bank of the Río Grande Valley, Inc. She keeps Valley media apprised of Food Bank projects such as the Check Out Hunger campaign, as well as acting as a public information contact for the organization.
Rodriguez Communications' (KNXT, 1490 AM, and KQUR) production manager Sammy the House, (AKA Samuel E. Ramirez) sure does know his way around digital sound recording equipment. We watched firsthand how he builds/produces radio spots and it looked like magic.
Gil Rocha is part of the Laredo Center for the Arts Outreach Program, working with coordinator Serena Rosenkrantz. He is now in his third year teaching art at Los Obispos Middle School. The Outreach Program, sponsored by the Lamar Bruni Vergara Foundation, goes out to local and surrounding community schools and brings art workshops to students and teachers to promote the art education learning experience.
