Elda Rivera recently announced that she will run as a candidate for Justice of the Peace Pct. 2, Place 1 in south Laredo.
Rivera said she will work to provide educational programs for parents and youth, including programs on domestic violence for battered women and children.
"I believe in strong family values, have an open door policy and close communication with other agencies. I will work with the community and our youth and stress the importance of education and community involvement," Rivera said.
"South Laredo has been neglected for a long time. I believe it is time for a change. As your elected justice of the peace, I will work closely with school staff and parents to decrease school dropouts. By having a close communication with school staff we will be able to target the problem areas, avoid teen pregnancies, gang-related incidents, and conflicts at home," she said.
Rivera is a reserve deputy constable. She is currently completing her bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
