From
the air, it's easy to see that gravity has
prevailed as commercial and residential development
-- with scant environmental safeguards --
around Lake Casa Blanca has dumped tons of
eroded dirt and silt into the bowl of the
lake. Agricultural land practices on the watershed
have also contributed to the siltation of
the lake.
Development near the lake has come in many
forms over the last several decades, but none
so fast and furious as that of the last decade
which includes the road bed for Loop 20, the
construction of Texas A& M International
University, the Laredo International Airport,
warehousing developments, the new multi-purpose
arena, and housing developments.
On the watershed of the lake it is also possible
to see that the flow of Chacon Creek has been
altered, diverted, or stopped on private land.
