Laredoan in SA pageant
Laredoan Charles Gabriel Treviño Johnson portrayed the Lord High Chamberlain, Zeus, the chief of the Greek gods, in this year's San Antonio Lutheran Coronation Association's recent mammoth pageant in the San Antonio Civic Center.
His costume was of brown and gold silk and sequins accented by a head wreath.
In some respects the pageant resembles the Laredo Washington 's Birthday Celebration Association show but it is larger and more elaborate, involving the presentation of 15 young women, including Richelle Elaine Nipper as queen of the Gods of Olympus.
The ornate, much-beaded costumes had glittering long trains which required strength to wield, each depicting a goddess. Escorts wore tuxedoes.
Many young people played the parts of pages. The promenade, set to music, was preceded by a ballet danced by seven dancers who also provided a delightful closing number in their rosy costumes.
Participants in the pageant are members of a variety of churches. They are of high school and college age and come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
The San Antonio Lutheran Coronation Association has existed for 45 years and each year stages this colossal pageant.
Laredoans and former Laredoans who attended the court of Greek mythology included Sam Johnson, Dr. S. K. Lawson, Mary Lawson Carranco and her husband Rosendo Carranco, Nelda Guerrero Drury, Sarita Ligarde Woodward, Elizabeth Sorrell, and the Carranco children.

She thought that Elizabeth Ney, the sculptor, was a kinfolk of mine, but my name is Nye, not Ney. Ney came from Europe in the 1800s, I believe.

Gloria Dabdoub chaired the 1944 Martin High School Reunion which included five events and was attended by about 100.
Due to health reasons, I was unable to attend the reunion, but the class sent me a card bearing loving messages from many of them. Then Gloria sent me a framed photograph of most of those attending. Nice that I could still identify some of them. Thanks to the Class of 1944. I love you.
