The Pan American Round Table held its November meeting at the Executive Club.
The meeting was called to order by director Julia Ruhlman.
The director of the Day was Marcia Jovel. Sheila Glassford, second associate director of area B, welcomed honorary members Norma Benavides and Gloria Zuniga and guests Ellen Tadros, Chita Ramos, Pilar Dabdoub, Olga Verduzco, and Marta Alonzo.
Minutes of the last meeting were read by Diana Rodriguez, and the treasurer’s report was given by Patricia Keck.
Letti Menchaca, Hercilia Camina, and Rosario Azios were in charge of decorations.
Parliamentarian Toni Ruiz read the names of five new members to be voted for membership. They were accepted unanimously.
The planning of the state convention to be held at La Posada Hotel March 28-31 was discussed.
The program speaker, Joy Harewood, was introduced by Marcia Jovel.
Ms. Harewood is a women’s health care nurse at Doctor’s Hospital. She is married to Patrick H. Harewood, pastor at the Pastor’s Lighthouse Assembly of God.
She delighted everyone with her talk on Barbados, where she has visited 11 times. Her in-laws reside there.
She showed beautiful slides and presented an exceptional program discussing the country, their traditions, their music, and the lovely people who live there.
For its Annual Christmas Tea, the Round Table met at the International Bank of Commerce.
The Director of the Day was Rosa María De Llano, who arranged for a performance from The Nutcracker Suite for the wonderful entertainment. Dancers were from the Vidal Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts along with private students from Laredo Ballet Theater. Choreography was by Mary Ellen Kirkpatrick Leyendecker. Costumes were by Elizabeth Leyendecker. Christina De Llano portrayed the Sugar Plum Fairy; Augusta Jones, the Snow Queen; Sara Flores, Chinese Tea; Chaine Leyendecker, as Clasa; and Eli Mendoza, the Nutcracker Prince.
Approximately 60 people attended. Director Julia Ruhlman thanked Olga Verduzco for making the arrangement at IBC, which provided a terrific merienda. The Pan American ladies were most appreciative.
