United Way kicks off
2005-06 campaign
United Way of Laredo, Inc. (UWL) officially kicks off the 2005-06 Campaign on Sept 9 with its annual breakfast at the Laredo Civic Center Ballroom.
According to UWL President Dan Migura, this year's goal is to raise $1,630,000 to support 24 local agencies. This year's campaign theme “Cuidando lo Nuestro” (Taking Care of Our Community) will be unveiled at the 6:45 a.m. breakfast.
Paco Barrientos from the Rio Advertising Group, who also designed the layout for this year's United Way of Laredo Brochure, inspired the theme.
The United Way will also premier the 2005 local campaign video which features the 24 agencies that will receive United Way funding in 2006.
Some of the United Way Agencies include Sacred Heart Children's Home, the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, Communities in Schools, Bethany House, Casa de Misericordia, the American Red Cross, and the Salvation Army. The film was produced by the City of Laredo Public Access Center .
“We have so many great businesses that lead the charge every year, businesses that are committed to United Way and the community to meet our local needs,” Migura said. “I have two goals this year for the United Way . One is to increase the number of people and businesses that participate in the campaign. The second is to increase the awareness of United Way . The more people learn about United Way and the number of agencies United Way helps to provide services, the more people will realize how important United Way is to the people in this community.”
