Grandparents attend wedding
Jan and John Witt, who once lived in Laredo and now live in San Angelo , recently traveled to Laredo to attend the wedding of their granddaughter Kimberly. John was in the U. S. Border Patrol and Jan was a prominent artist, when they lived in Laredo .
Jan's letter describing their trip to the wedding gives a glimpse of a happy affair:
Hope you're having a great day. Our darling Kimberly had a beautiful day July 9 in Laredo . She and Joshua were ‘beaming' throughout the day. The family who put it all together did a terrific job and all went well.
Cindy not only made wonderful gowns for the flower girls, but also somehow got all the foodstuffs together. I believe Johnny may have cooked the meats. About the only kind they didn't have was buffalo.
Grandpa John was the speaker and started the ceremony. Most people knew that Kim and Josh had married in San Antonio early in May – an unexpected elopement – and so, this ceremony was created for family and friends to feel they were at their wedding and could enjoy the love and happiness the newlyweds were obviously showing.
Mr. And Mrs. Joshua Dozier reside in an apartment outside of San Antonio . Both intend to continue college. I am not aware enough to explain what subjects they are following. I recall Kim was headed into the medical world, like sister Brittany, who speaks of being an anesthesia nurse.
I'm glad the actual wedding was such a hit, because the trip itself was a mess!
Outside of Del Rio , there was roadwork, which may have extended to the outskirt of Dorothy's land of Oz. Dust and waiting foxhole pits are rough on olden bodies. We retuned via the Hill Country through Bandera and Kerrville , which had a day of outstanding clouds. Recalling some impressive imaginations were more elephants than I have ever seen. Including a dinosaur in the group. There were birds, but there were also big nose bears. It was almost a circus in heaven.
Former Methodist Church pastor
The Rev. John R. Gibbs has come to live at the Meadows, a retirement complex in San Antonio .
Rev. Gibbs was once pastor of the Methodist Church in Laredo . He also served in Austin and San Angelo . His wife died in November.
Old Martinites to gather
The number of Martin High School alumni from the class of 1959 who live in San Antonio is 21. They are planning a reunion supper at the Cha Cha Restaurant sometime in August. That's a news item from Juanita Herrera Sosa.
Sosa lives in San Antonio . After 36 years of federal service, she now works at Randolph Air Force Base as a personnel support specialist in the Environmental Area. Her sons Eddie and Tony are now grown up.
She invited her old teacher to the party, so soon you will hear about more former Laredoans now living in San Antonio .
Happy 96 th , Josephine
Josephine Daiches Brand, now retired from her business, was honored in July with a luncheon at the Laredo Country Club by her daughter Linda B. Deutsch. All of Josephine's family were present.
Beautiful cerise bids were sent out by Linda Brand Deutsch to her mother's 96 th birthday celebration. “Let's celebrate. She's done it 95 times. Let's join her for another,” read the card.
Josephine was born in 1909 to Leon and Minette Daiches, lived on the west end of Matamoros Street , and attended Laredo schools.
She married Joe Brand, and they opened a store at which she managed the women's section.
They had two daughters, Linda Deutsch and the late Patsy Sanditen. She has eight grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Now retired, she enjoys an active social life, especially playing bridge and attending the Luncheon Club.
The attention of two faithful nurses, the care of physician Dr. Joaquin Cigarroa, and the company of her many friends make Josephine's life a delight. She loves her family immensely.
Nicole praises museums
When Kathie Alexander of Laredo and her daughter Nicole Yandell of Houston were in San Antonio in early July, they had lunch as the guests of Elizabeth Sorrell at the Meadows, a retirement complex.
Nicole and Jason reported on a recent European trip to London and Amsterdam . They were celebrating their recent sixth wedding anniversary.
The weather was sunny, clear, and beautiful making their visits to museums possible. They were delighted with the great art.
“Masterpieces were meant to be seen in person,” Nicole said. “On this trip we savored the beauty and talent of great painters. We shall never feel the same again.”
That Sunday afternoon Kathie and Nicole went up to Boerne to attend a handcraft fair and buy some pretty things.
Nicole recently purchased a home in the Galleria District in Houston.
