Captain Caustic back on the air
Adios to Tom Moore
A significant media note this month, at least for me, transpires at our office, at LareDOS. After seven years of incredible service and direction for the sustainability of LareDOS, Tom Moore leaves the post of editor to become a schoolteacher at United South. Our incredible loss is the school's immense good fortune. On a personal note, I will miss his presence in my life on a daily basis.
Ernie Treviño, a former schoolteacher, takes on the editorship of LareDOS. We welcome him to this vital role on our small staff.
Captain Caustic
Caustic as some of the commentary is, it's still a breath of fresh air to hear Jay St. John raise questions on local and national issues. You can hear him in tandem with T.J. Ruiz on XHNK 99.3 FM. Congressman Henry Cuellar calls in to the show twice a month and you can, too, by calling 712- 2993. The show airs weekdays from 7 to 9 a .m. and in between all the probing, acerbic commentary it's disco, baby, and some classic hits.
At KGNS
At KGNS, the Pro-8 news team welcomes Dillon Collier as weekend sports anchor/reporter. He is a graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism in Arizona . Station manager Mary Nell Sanchez notes, “We are very excited about Dillon's arrival and his enthusiasm.”
Joe Camaralinghi has been promoted to the position of Sports Director. He and Collier are gearing up for Friday football coverage and the release of the annual Friday Football Fever, the full color magazine that includes all area football schedules. The magazine's release in early August kicked off with a Coach's Bar-B-Que at Coyote Creek.
Sadly, Matthew Le Blanc leaves the station after three solid years at Pro 8 News. He leaves our Weekend Anchor chair for the title of Executive Producer/Morning Anchor at a television station in Amarillo . Former Pro 8 News staffers Christina Medina and Matt Orlando are also in Amarillo --but at a competing station. Matthew will be sorely missed.
Mindy Casso is still hanging tough as her pregnancy advances. Mindy will be giving birth to a baby boy in early October.
Rio Group Downtown
Rosie Coronado and Paco Barrientos of the Rio Group Advertising Agency have moved from the Heights to the downtown digs of the FQR Architecture building at the corner of Victoria and San Bernardo .
Adios , Laurel Almada
No sooner had we made friends with journalist Laurel Almada, PIO for the District Attorney's office, than she is off to live in New Orleans . Her husband, Josue who is a U.S. Marshal, was transferred there.
Perales Garcia
New PIO for DA'S office
Monica Perales García took Almada's place last month. Perales García, a former senior communication relations consultant to the Mayor of Denver, is a 1988 graduate of St. Augustine High School . She holds a degree in political science from the University of Texas at San Antonio .
The relationship between
what you write & advertising
Is there a direct relationship between advertising and asking in print if a City Council member has an environmental IQ? Why, yes! We lost the regular back cover advertiser (a homebuilder) who had been with us more than a year after we wrote about Council member Belmares' lack of environmental sensitivity.
