Community Health Center adds
two physicians, two dentists to staff
Gateway
Community Health Center, Inc., has significantly
expanded its scope of services to include a pediatric
dental care specialist and an additional dentist
as part of its preventive dental healthcare services.
In addition, Gateway's primary medical services
has seen the addition of three providers through
an expansion grant from the Bureau of Primary Healthcare.
Gateway is working with the newly formed County
Healthcare Coalition to pursue new avenues in providing
healthcare services to the large number of Webb
County residents without health insurance. Gateway
is also in the process of renovating both its Central
and South Clinics to provide additional space for
future medical, dental, and ancillary services.
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations has recently reaccredited the Center.
Joining the growing list of medical and dental providers
at Gateway Community Health Center are Sandra Flores,
WHNP, Rosalinda Cuellar, FNP, Gloria Yañez,
DDS, and Romona L. Davis, DDS.
Sandra Flores, Women's Healthcare Nurse Practitioner,
is a 1995 graduate of the University of Texas School
of Nursing in Austin. She was certified in 1999
as a women's healthcare nurse practitioner by the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
in Dallas. Her nursing experience has included staff
RN in labor and delivery, postpartum, and nursery
at the Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett, TX;
staff RN in labor and delivery at Mercy Regional
Medical Center in Laredo; and woman's healthcare
nurse practitioner at UT Southwestern in Dallas.
"Sandra represents the hardworking, bright
talent that Gateway strives to obtain in order to
provide the community with the highest medical quality
care available," said Miguel Treviño,
Jr., Gateway CEO. "Her exceptional communication
skills, along with her ability to provide individualized
care based on patient needs, makes her a valuable
resource to both the clinical staff and the community
at large."
Rosalinda Cuellar, RN, MSN-FNP, is another addition
to the Gateway staff. Her duties have included providing
screening as well as preventative services at the
Fort Duncan Rural Health Clinic in Eagle Pass; treatment
of children and adolescents at the Pediatric Clinic
of Dr. Miguel Cavazos in Laredo; providing care
to critically ill patients with multiple organ failure
at McAllen Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen
and both Doctor's Hospital and Mercy Regional Medical
Center in Laredo; and providing mental health services
and treatment for clients at the San Antonio State
Hospital in Laredo. She holds a master's degree
in Nursing from Texas A&M University in Corpus
Christi, and is a board-certified family nurse practitioner.
She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
in 1998 from Texas A&M International University
in Laredo and her associate's degree in Nursing
in 1995 from Laredo Community College.
"Rosalinda's willingness to locate a challenging
position to utilize her advanced nurse practitioner
skills and the Clinic's overall mission to provide
quality medical care makes her a key player in bringing
to fruition Gateway's vision for the community,"
said Treviño. "Her extensive professional
experience allows for providing treatment in different
aspects of care."
Gloria Yañez, D.D.S., is a 1980 graduate
of Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio
where she earned a B.A. in Chemistry in 1980, and
a 2003 graduate of the University of Texas Health
Science Center at San Antonio-Dental School in San
Antonio.
"It is extremely important that the community
be made aware of Gateway's commitment to providing
not only medical care, but high quality primary
dental care in a professional, personal, and cost-effective
manner as explicitly stated in our Mission Statement,"
said Treviño. "In order to continue
our long tradition of providing top of the line
dental care and treatment, Gateway is fortunate
to have acquired the dental expertise of Dr.Yañez.
Her bilingual skills and desire to work with patients
in a community health clinic setting make her an
excellent partner in accomplishing the objectives
and goals of our Clinic here in Laredo."
Pediatric dentist Dr. Romona L. Davis obtained her
Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University
of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio-Dental
School in 1999, and her bachelor of science degree
from Texas A&M University in College Station
in 1994. Her postgraduate training in pediatric
dentistry was obtained at the Howard University
College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C., and her
most recent academic appointment was that of Assistant
Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the University
of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio-Dental
School. Davis is American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
Board Eligible, and is currently a member of the
American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association,
the American Dental Education Association, the American
Society of Dentistry for Children, and the American
Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
"Dr. Davis' expertise and knowledge of pediatric
dentistry at the international and national level
will only lead to our patients receiving the best
of care and treatment. Her education, training,
and research, along with her great desire to work
with children, are a winning combination for Gateway,"
