Guerra campaign for Webb County treasurer
opens headquarters on San Bernardo

Former City Council member Joe Guerra, candidate for Webb County treasurer in the November 5 general election, reports that his campaign, which is staffed by his wife and children, is in full swing across the county. His campaign headquarters are at 4302 San Bernardo. "This is a very important decision to make for Webb County Treasurer," Guerra said. "I am a fiscal conservative who is experienced in public spending issues. My experience with the City's budget of $150 million certainly gives me the perspective to work with the county budget," Guerra said, adding that he wants the voters of Webb County to consider his record of responsible service as a City Council member.
Republican Guerra, who served on the Laredo City Council for two four-year terms that ended in 2002 and in an earlier tenure from 1970 to 1982, faces Democratic candidate Delia Perales.
"I am asking the voters of Webb County to vote for the individual candidate and not the party," Guerra said, adding that if an individual votes straight ticket, he or she can still cast a vote for him and that vote will be counted. "I've just received clarification from the office of the Webb County elections administrator that the vote for the candidate outside of the straight ticket will be counted," he said.
"I have always voted my conscience and based myself on what I believed was in the best interest of the City. Those who know me and those with whom I have worked in the City of Laredo know that I understand the value of taxpayer dollars. As Webb County Treasurer, I would do all possible to protect the revenues of the office," Guerra said.
"Anyone interested in joining the campaign, giving me a hand, or having a yard sign can reach me or my family at 753-5538 or 753-7935," he said.
