An
American institution was born a hundred years ago
when Bill Harley and the Davidson brothers, Arthur,
Walter, and William started taking their bicycle designing
hobby seriously. In 1903, although finances were modest
and tools much less sophisticated than today's, the
first Harley-Davidson motorcycle was built and made
available to the public.
As the Harley-Davidson Motor Company celebrates its
100th anniversary this year, it leaves a lasting impression
on highways as well as fashion runways.
Though it's been a corporate success story a hundred
years in the making, Harley-Davidson has just arrived
in the Laredo business community with a grand opening
and ribbon cutting for Laredo Harley-Davidson. The
event was marked with a warm welcome from the Laredo
Chamber of Commerce as well as area cycle enthusiasts.
Good food and good music provided by Wildroots entertained
visitors who came in to visit the new shop at 7080
San Bernardo.
"It's about time Laredo has a Harley-Davidson
shop," said Laredoan Jesse Garcia who is a bike
owner and is in the market for a Harley. "Now
we don't have to go out of town to look for a bike.
This shop is good for Laredo," he added.
Two-hundred Laredoans petitioned Harley's corporate
office for a shop in Laredo.
Oscar J. Garcia, Laredo Harley-Davidson store manager
said, " The people of Laredo have responded well.
They have come in to tell us it's about time Laredo
had a Harley franchise in town." Garcia added,
"We have also had visitors from all over who
love Harley-Davidson bikes and make the trip to see
what we have here."
Rick and David Sierra from New Mexico heard about
the new Laredo Harley-Davidson shop and made the trip
to check out the store. "The store looks good.
It has a good selection of clothes and bikes. I love
my 1960 Police Special Pan Head bike, but I want to
get a new one," said Rick.
The store is pleased to announce that sales are great
for both clothing and bikes. Laredo Harley-Davidson
provides bike maintenance and repairs by experts,
and service that includes everything from the 1,000-mile
service repair to major engine performance modification.
According to manager Garcia, Harley-Davidson has had
the staying power of a century because of the quality
of its cycles. "But it is also the dealers, employees,
and the customers who have contributed to Harley-Davidson's
success," he said.
García invited Laredoans to come by 7080 San
Bernardo or to call 717-VROD (8763) for further information..
