Former City Council District V candidates George Beckellhymer and Celestino Marina have joined forces to endorse incumbent Nelly Vielma in her re-election bid.

Incumbent Vielma will face challenger Ruben Gutierrez in the Saturday, December 12, runoff election.

Beckellhymer and Marina are in agreement that Vielma is the best candidate to work to help small businesses survive during this unprecedented pandemic and that the incumbent has a proven record of service to District V and the City of Laredo.

Virlma is known to take initiatives to find creative solutions to help District V, including the establishment of a partnership between the City of Laredo, Laredo College, and Workforce Solutions for South Texas that provides dislocated workers with re-training in stable occupations. She has also assisted bar owners to keep their establishments open by including dining components.

Vielma’s effective leadership has addressed and will continue to address District V’s needs during this critical moment in which the City continues to cope with the ramifications of the pandemic. She has been an unwavering advocate for small businesses and the area’s working families.

Vielma’s education and experience with the needs of her constituents and the City as a whole are key issues on which Beckelhymer and Marina agreed.

“I wholeheartedly thank Mr. Beckelhymer and Mr. Marina for urging their supporters to vote for me in the upcoming runoff race,” Vielma said.

They also lauded Vielma’s efforts at fighting corruption at City Hall and her efforts to ensure that Laredo’s officials maintain the highest ethical standards of integrity.
