AHEC receives Collaboration Award from Workforce Solutions for South Texas

AHEC, the Area Health Education Center of the Mid Rio Grande Border Area (AHEC) was recognized with the Collaboration Award by the Workforce Solutions for South Texas. The award was conferred for contributions made in support of the “Summer Earn & Learn Program” and for being a strong partner of the Workforce Solutions System.

The Summer Earn & Learn Program is a statewide initiative that provides employable skills training and a paid work experience for students with disabilities during the summer. The program’s goal is to integrate talented individuals into the workplace and to help them plan their future and identify career goals.

Participants gain valuable work experience and skills in a real-world setting o help them become college and career ready.

AHEC took on the initiative through collective efforts and successfully teamed up with Workforce Solutions for South Texas to benefit local job seekers.

“We are humbled and honored to be part of the Workforce Solutions’ extended family, and we will continue to work together for the betterment of our community,” said AHEC executive director Julie Bazan.

AHEC is an outreach program of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization with a mission to enhance the quality of life of the community by increasing the number of well-trained health care workers; enhancing academic resources; and fostering a healthy life style through community education programs.
