Friends of North Central Park (NCP) — neighboring families, veterans, runners, cyclists, birding enthusiasts, and environmentalists turned out in good numbers Wednesday afternoon at North Central Park to speak up in support of not building a veterans museum in the park.

The group included representatives of veterans groups not in favor of the NCP site — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9194, American Legion Post 59, and the South Texas Afghanistan Iraq Veterans Association.

The gathering participated in the filming of footage for a media campaign to halt development of a museum on parkland that includes a wetland, a tributary of Manadas Creek, and a riparian ecosystem that supports a diversity of wildlife.

Spokespersons of the group said they supported a veterans museum, but not in NCP.

Anyone interested in donating to the media campaign expense fund, can call the Río Grande International Study Center, a 501©3 non-profit, at (956) 718-1063 or can go to Save North Central Park at gofundme
