The Webb County Public Safety, SPC officially announced details of the proposed Webb County Public Safety Headquarters at an Oct. 12 press conference at the Webb County Courthouse.

A vote on the proposed facility is on the ballot in a bond election that begins October 23 and culminates with Election Day on Tuesday, November 7.

The public was encouraged to “Vote Yes” on Proposition A for a safer and more secure Webb County. The campaign for the proposition addressed the growing need of having to accommodate additional inmates and manage operations more efficiently as Webb County’s population continues to increase.

The proposed $125 million Headquarters would consolidate all functions of the Webb County Sheriff’s office while increasing inmate capacity and generating annual revenue for the County. The proposed state-of-the-art facility would feature an extensive law enforcement training facility complete with classrooms, a firing range to qualify all deputies with their weapons, a road course to train deputies in high speed and hazardous conditions, a vehicle repair facility, new administrative offices, infirmary, and a secure evidence room. Some of these facilities will be accessible to all local law enforcement agencies.

The new Public Safety Headquarters will also expand the current jail capacity from 500 beds to 738 beds. Webb County would benefit greatly from this development. It would create new job opportunities and help save taxpayers money. Fewer tax dollars will be spent housing inmates in surrounding counties, a current expense of roughly $2,120 per day).

The new Webb County Public Safety Headquarters would be among the newest and most modern facility in the State of Texas, featuring the latest technology.

  1. “The financial impact of this project on taxpayers ranges based on age and property value (is?)— for seniors, 65 and over there is a $0 increase.

  2. Exactly what is the impact. I understood that the program the DA had was keeping the jail space available. Why was the program cancelled. Why do we need this facility? We have a very low crime rate. We were told recently at a council meeting that 52% of our residents earn less than $39,000.00 annually. Someone said that was due to the Nuevo Laredo people that come and work here so it skews the figures! What? This is from the census. People from Nuevo Laredo are not even taken into account. PEOPLE WAKE UP!! WHY DO WE INSIST ON SPENDING MONEY WE DON’T HAVE? ITS OUR MONEY!!! YA BASTA!!
