The Area Health Education Center’s 33rd Annual Update in Medicine Conference is scheduled for Friday, October 20, and Saturday, October 21, at the UT Health Science Center Regional Laredo Campus. The Friday conference begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m. The Saturday conference begins at 8 p.m. and ends and noon.

The one-of-a-kind forum brings together experts in the field of medicine to share and present the most current information regarding the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and management of various health conditions that impact the community. This year’s program focuses on cancer, hypertension, bariatric surgeries, genetics, mental health, medical ethics, audiology, eating and skin disorders, and other topics.

AHEC of the Mid Rio Grande Border area works collaboratively with the Webb-Zapata-Jim Hogg County Medical Society to develop programs specifically designed to address the medical information needs of the region. These programs are the substance of the Annual Update in Medicine Conference.

Numerous health care providers have been linked to educational resources via this annual event, which offers information to help improve the quality of life for residents in the Mid Rio Grande Border region. Physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nutritionists, social workers, counselors and others will be able to obtain continuing education credits for attending the conference.

Medical and nursing students as well as the community are invited to attend.  For additional information about the conference and other AHEC programs, call (956) 712-0037. Register online at https://33rdannualupdate.eventbrite.com
