De Leon and López to attend Bloomberg Harvard Leadership Program

City Manager Horacio De Leon Jr. and Blasita J. López, Convention and Visitors Bureau Director/ Acting Public Information Officer will attend the next phase of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative in New York.

De Leon and López will participate in the immersive in-person executive education portion of the program on August 20 and will participate in classroom sessions, group work, and learning experiences around the Big Apple until Thursday, August 24. Participation for both City staff members including tuition, accommodations, meals, and airfare is funded by a gift from the Bloomberg Philanthropies as part of its Government Innovation portfolio.

According to the program website, the Leadership Initiative includes an executive education program for mayors, and separately for senior staff; state-of-the-art engagement through Harvard Business School’s virtual classroom, HBX Live; the opportunity to receive coaching by former mayors and globally renowned practitioners; access to an array of current and upcoming programs, peer learning, and world class expertise from Bloomberg Philanthropies; leading expertise, research, and support from faculty at Harvard University; access to competitively selected Harvard graduate students for fellowships, research, and fieldwork; a network of leading mayors for peer learning; and ongoing support from the initiative’s staff.

“It is an extraordinary tool in our collective utility belt to have Laredo be associated with and have a network of leading academic and government experts to utilize and consult with as a part of this program. It is special to be a part of the initiative and beneficial for the community of Laredo,” said Mayor Pete Saenz. “Our participation in this program is an asset and truly a gift from Mr. Bloomberg and we have to take full advantage of the opportunity. This is one of the reasons that I selected Mr. De Leon and Mrs. López to attend this rigorous leadership development program.”

De Leon and López will be out of the city from August 20-25.
