In preparation for the opening of its 38th season in October. the Laredo Philharmonic orchestra has launched a fund-drive called “Adopt a Musician.”

According to Maestro Brendan Townsend, the Philharmonic is seeking the individual “adoption” of its 50 core musicians that play in all concerts.

Townsend said there are two basic levels of adoption. “To adopt a principal player, meaning the first chair violin, or first chair flute, for instance, we are asking $500. We will include the benefactor’s name alongside the adopted musician on our website, program, and book, and they will receive two tickets to the opening concert,” he explained.

He said that the adoption of a non-principal player costs $200. “The benefactor’s name will appear alongside the adopted musician on the Phil’s website, program, and book and they will receive one ticket to the opening concert,” Townsend said, adding, “For each musician that is adopted, we will include your name in each of the program books alongside the name of the musician. We will also send you a complimentary ticket to our gala opening concert on Sunday October 29 where you can have your picture taken on the Red Carpet with your adopted musician.”

The 38th season is named “Orchestral Families” and will feature four subscription concerts, each featuring one of the four families within the orchestra: Strings /Brass / Woodwinds / Percussion.
