The Río Grande International Study Center (RGISC), Council member Nelly Vielma, and community volunteers will work Monday, April 17 from 8:30 a.m. to noon for a post-Easter cleanup at Lake Casa Blanca to bring the state park back to a clean state that can be enjoyed by the public and the wildlife that inhabits the park.

Council member Vielma will provide lunch for volunteers.

“The future starts now with cleanup efforts like this,” said Erika Saenz of RGISC. “This park is one of our city’s treasures, and it belongs to each of us. We are grateful to be a partner in this community-wide initiative to keep the lake clean and free from harmful trash and litter.”

“It is important that we take care of our outdoor environment, our parks and lakes, so that we can continue to enjoy them, and the animals who share our world, can continue to thrive there, as well, for generations to come,” said Vielma. “I encourage everyone to come have some fun, help clean the park and enjoy a nice lunch, knowing you made a difference to help clean up our environment, our Laredo.”

For further information on volunteering, please call RGISC at (956) 718-1063 or contact Erika Saenz at erika@rgisc.org or assistant park superintendent Terry Sims at (956) 725-3826.

(RGISC is Laredo’s only environmental nonprofit organization. It was founded in 1994 to protect and preserve the Rio Grande-Rio Bravo and local green spaces for the benefit of present and future generations.)
